Schedl vs Vagaro

A Vagaro alternative if you don't need a full salon-management suite.

Vagaro tries to be everything for a salon — booking, POS, marketing, inventory, payroll. That works if you actually use all of it. Schedl just nails the booking and the client experience.

The honest one-liner

Stay on Vagaro if you use the POS, inventory, payroll, and marketing tools. Switch to Schedl if you only really use Vagaro for booking and want something lighter.

Which one is right

Pick the tool that fits how your day actually runs.

Both products are well-built. The question is which one matches what your day looks like.

Pick Vagaro
Multi-chair salons and spas that use Vagaro as the system of record — POS, inventory, retail, payroll, marketing campaigns, the whole stack.
Pick Schedl
Salons that log into Vagaro mostly to look at the calendar and would rather have a lighter tool that handles booking really well and stays out of the way.

Where Vagaro wins
These are real strengths. If they describe your business, stay on Vagaro.
  • If you actually run inventory, retail, payroll, and email marketing inside one tool, Vagaro pays for itself.
  • POS and card-on-file at the counter is native and well-built.
  • Marketplace listing gives you some discovery potential.
  • Big multi-chair salons with a front desk benefit from the depth.
Where Schedl wins
These are the reasons service-business owners switch.
  • If you really just want booking that works, Schedl is faster to set up and lighter to run.
  • Your booking page looks like your salon, not like Vagaro.
  • Flat pricing without the per-module add-ons.
  • Owner approval workflow built in: a request comes in, you tap Accept.
  • Setup that already knows what a hair salon, barber, massage, tattoo, or auto shop needs.
FAQ

Questions before you switch.

Will I lose POS / retail if I switch?+

Yes — Schedl doesn't replace a POS or retail inventory tool. If you currently sell products at the counter through Vagaro, you'd need a separate POS. For most service-only shops, this isn't a problem.

Can I import my Vagaro client list?+

Yes. Vagaro exports clients to CSV. Schedl imports the CSV. Most shops do this once during setup.

What about marketing emails and campaigns?+

Schedl doesn't have built-in marketing-campaign tools — those live in Mailchimp, Klaviyo, or whatever you prefer. Schedl handles transactional emails (confirmations, reminders, manage links) really well, just not promotional blasts.

Is Schedl cheaper than Vagaro?+

Usually, but it depends on which Vagaro modules you actually use. Vagaro's strength is bundling many tools; if you use one or two of them, you're overpaying. Schedl's $19 or $49 flat is hard to beat for booking-only.

This page describes Vagaro as we understand it from public product documentation. Features and pricing on the competitor side change — check their official site for current details before making a final decision.
